For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a strong attraction to the old world look and feel of the canvas and leather bags. The correct combination of canvas and leather distinguishes a bag from all the others. The quality of the canvas and leather is as equally important as the color of each of those elements.Over the last few years I’ve come across two collections: Parson Gray and DamnDog.
Parson Gray is a collection inspired by military utility bags from WWI and the Spanish American War.The choice of canvas on the Parson Gray collection complements the beautiful thick leather and the designer cotton cross-hatch fabric adds to the luxurious yet casual look.My favorite bag in the Parson Gray collection has to be the sling messenger bag Style PG7704.This messenger bag fits a lot! Laptop, files, books, kindle, smartphone, sun glasses, etc…It can even be used as an overnight bag.The raw leather belt style shoulder strap is very unique.
DamnDog!I met Kicker, the designer of this collection at a NYC trade show. This collection was designed with the owners dog Dozer in mind, hence the name DamnDog.A percentage of sales from this collection will be donated to a charity by DamnDog.You can read more about Kicker and his mission statement here. This collection includes four thoughtfully designed styles. The leather is a rich brown color and the canvas feels crisp and heavy to the touch. The antique brass hardware complements the colors of the bag.The color of the lining brightens the interior space, helping you find items easier. My favorite bag from this collection is the Under Gear Box bag Style DD005.This bag is unique all the way from the large zipper opening down to the secret hidden passport pocket.Use it as an office bag -this bag will fit your laptop and many other items-, as a gym bag or even an overnight bag.The craftsmanship of both collections speak for themselves.
